TripSplit

Terms of Use

Effective November 2, 2026. Applies to the TripSplit app for iPhone.

These terms are an agreement between you and Richard Baughman ("I", "me"), the developer of TripSplit. By downloading or using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. Apple's standard license

TripSplit is licensed to you under Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Apple EULA"). These terms add to it. If they conflict with the Apple EULA on a point it covers, the Apple EULA controls. Apple is not responsible for the app or its support, and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of the Apple EULA.

2. What the app is for

TripSplit helps you record shared expenses and work out who owes whom. It is a record-keeping and arithmetic aid. It does not move money, and it is not accounting, tax, legal or financial advice.

3. Check the numbers

4. Subscriptions

5. Your content

You own the trips, expenses, photos and other content you enter. You give me no rights to it beyond what is needed to run the app on your behalf (for example, sending a receipt photo you choose to scan to the AI service, as described in the Privacy Policy). Only add information about other people (such as names and email addresses) that you are entitled to share, and only scan receipts you may lawfully photograph.

6. Acceptable use

Don't misuse the app or its supporting services. That includes attempting to bypass usage limits, extract the app's service credentials, overload or probe the services behind the app, reverse engineer the app except as the law permits, or use it for anything unlawful. I may limit or block access that threatens the service or its costs.

7. Third-party services

Some features rely on services run by others (Apple iCloud and Maps, Anthropic, Google Places, and a public exchange-rate service). They can change or be unavailable. When the AI receipt service is unavailable, the app may fall back to less accurate on-device reading, or you can enter expenses by hand.

8. Availability and changes

I try to keep the app working, but it is provided as is and may contain errors or be interrupted. I may update, change or discontinue features. Back up anything important: your data is stored in your iCloud account, and you can also email trip summaries to yourself.

9. Disclaimer and limits of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, TripSplit is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, lost data, or disputes among travellers, and my total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and some places do not allow the limits above, so they may not apply to you.

10. Termination

You can stop using the app at any time. I may suspend or end your access if you break these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as 5, 9 and 11) survive termination.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where your local consumer law requires otherwise. If you are a consumer, you keep any mandatory rights you have where you live.

12. Changes to these terms

I may update these terms. The date above shows the latest version; continued use after a change means you accept it.
